Louisiana woman charged with aggravated battery

On Behalf of | Jul 17, 2015 | Criminal Defense |

Anyone can have a bad moment. Sometimes life’s stresses, obstacles and disappointments can cause us to feel extremely frustrated. And if we are greeted with a setback at just the wrong moment, we may react in a manner that has negative consequences. If our actions are in violation of Louisiana’s state laws, it is possible that criminal charges may follow.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office recently arrested a woman who allegedly struck a construction worker with her car in June. Reportedly, she became upset when she was told she could not drive through a construction site. After telling the woman that traffic would be delayed, the construction worker suggested she could either wait or turn around.

Instead, the woman is said to have started driving through the site, hitting the construction worker in the knee as she proceeded. Other workers attempted to ascertain the woman’s identity and address, but she gave them false information and fled from the scene.

Witnesses did get her vehicle’s license plate number, which police used to locate the woman at her home. She was arrested and placed in jail, having been charged with disturbing the peace, aggravated battery and hit and run driving. It is said she confessed to having caused a disturbance.

The construction worker received hospital treatment for injuries that were considered non-life threatening.

It is not uncommon for a person to make mistakes when caught in a frustrating situation. But if you are ever criminally charged for such a mistake, it is important to prepare a strong legal strategy as soon as possible. Your long-term prospects should not be defined by a bad moment.

As such, a Louisiana criminal defense attorney may be able to help you work through your options. In some cases, a plea agreement may render the best outcome. At other times, it works to a defendant’s advantage to fight the charges.
