How can I keep my BAC at a legal level while drinking socially?

On Behalf of | Jun 12, 2015 | Criminal Defense, DWI/DUI |

One of the most pleasurable things in life can be sharing a few drinks with friends. But it is very easy to get so caught up in the good times that you may have one or two too many. If you drive after imbibing too much, you could find yourself facing drunk driving charges.

If you are pulled over by the police and they measure your blood alcohol concentration at above the legal limit, you could be arrested for driving while under the influence. So what can you do if you want to drink socially while keeping your BAC in check?

Well, one thing you can do is limit yourself to one drink per hour. By doing this, you will limit the amount of alcohol you have in your system. You may also want to eat while you are drinking. Eating will slow down the absorption of alcohol into your system. And finally, you can reduce the rate at which alcohol enters your bloodstream by drinking water or soda between alcoholic drinks.

It is important to understand that even if you take these measures prior to driving, it is still possible the police could pull you over and charge you with driving under the influence. It is always wise to drink in moderation and avoid getting behind the wheel until after the effects of the alcohol dissipate. But sometimes circumstances or a simple misjudgment can lead someone to drive with a BAC over the legal limit.

A DUI conviction can have a profoundly negative impact on your life. You may have to pay a hefty fine or even spend time in jail. You may also lose your driving privileges. And DUI penalties can be more severe with each subsequent conviction.

If you are ever arrested and charged with driving under the influence, a Louisiana DUI attorney may be able to help protect your driving privileges and minimize any other penalties.
