‘Tis the season to be careful with drinking and driving

While carolers may sing that this is the season for being jolly, we would all benefit to remember that it is also the season for being careful. As we proceed through the holidays, we will likely find ourselves attending parties and enjoying the company of friends and family. Such gatherings can be great fun and frequently having drinks is part of the merriment. However, it is best to be careful when consuming alcohol.

There are many reasons that people may choose to drink during the holidays. For some, it is simply for celebratory purposes. But there are also people who are not accustomed to socializing. They may use alcohol to help reduce their anxiety when attending a party. Still others may find themselves feeling stressed out or lonely.

But regardless of why you might have a drink or two, you will want to be careful if afterward you get behind the wheel of an automobile. Your best bet is to forgo driving in favor of using alternative forms of transportation. Taking the bus, a cab or a ride with a designated driver are all sound choices for getting home safely.

Unfortunately, sometimes self-reliance is the only option and you may decide to drive after having participated in some holiday cheer. If in doing this you are pulled over by the police and arrested for driving under the influence, you may face starting 2015 without your driving privileges.

A Louisiana DWI attorney may be able to help you prepare a defense strategy that will offer you the opportunity to keep your driver’s license. Attorney Steven J. Moore handles DWI cases and you can learn about his services on this website.
