Teen in custody after gunshots kill 3 at birthday party in Baker

On Behalf of | Apr 3, 2014 | Criminal Defense |

When a teenager organizes a party for her birthday with the help of her family and friends, she usually has good reason to believe it will be a success. Little did one Louisiana birthday girl suspect that her special evening would result in three people being killed and criminal charges for one of the teenage guests.

She had arranged a musical performance for friends attending her sweet 16 party, and her family had rented the Baker Civic Club for the Friday night event. She’d decided to open up her party to more people, so she’d advertised it on social media.

With quite a crowd attending, the evening was going well until about 11 p.m. when some altercations broke out on the dance floor, and suddenly a gunshot rang out — and then more shots. People scattered in the chaos and hid or escaped.

By the time emergency responders arrived at the venue they found a 15-year-old girl dead and three critically injured teenage boys. Two of the boys died after being taken to the hospital, bringing the party’s death toll to three.

After speaking with many of the party-goers overnight and into the next day, police charged a 16-year-old boy on three counts of murder. He was also charged for attempted murder and illegal use of a weapon.

It is important that the accused teenager is defended properly by a criminal defense attorney because he is facing very serious charges that could result in serious consequences for the rest of his life. A defense team that understands the full implications of the law can help a juvenile develop a strategy to minimize the sentence or have the charges dropped, altered or reduced.
