Opelousas man facing drug possession charges

Louisiana readers know that being caught with drugs can lead to serious consequences, like fines, penalties, prison sentences and other serious punishments. Recently, there was news about a police raid that took place in Opelousas. The raid went well, according to the police because the drugs police were looking for were found. The man’s arrest on drugs charges may have come as a shock, because he was at home at the time of the raid.

According to the news from Nov. 21, the man was at home at the 1300 block of W. Park Avenue when the police raided his home searching for drugs. Because they were allegedly able to obtain nearly 1.5 pounds of marijuana in the home, officers believe the man had an intent to sell the drugs.

The raid took place on Thursday, Nov. 21, after the police obtained and conducted a search warrant for the property. According to the investigators, they were able to locate an three-quarters of an ounce of crack cocaine along with the large stash of marijuana on the premises. The man, 28, was arrested, and he has now been charged with a number of crimes. He has been arrested on the charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of schedule I and II drugs with the intent to distribute and for completing drug transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.
