Man who ran out of gas charged with homicide in St. Landry Parish

A St. Landry Parish man is accused of negligent homicide, criminal mischief and a string of other offenses after he allegedly ran out of gas on Kennerson Road in Opelousas, Louisiana, in early October. Authorities claim that after the man’s Mitsubishi truck ran out of gas, the vehicle was left on the road. Police say that the Mitsubishi was in the traffic lane without any lights or emergency blinkers to mark its presence.

Louisiana Supreme Court knocks down felony immigrant driving law

The Louisiana Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that a state law making it a felony for noncitizens to drive a motor vehicle in the state without legal documentation is unconstitutional. The state high court based its ruling, in part, on a previous ruling of the United States Supreme Court in a separate case from another state.

Former deputy arrested again in Ascension Parish, more child porn

It is not necessarily uncommon for authorities to bring additional charges against a person after an initial investigation turns into an arrest. In mid-September, we discussed the arrest of a former Ascension Parish deputy on allegations that he had engaged in indecent behavior with a juvenile. The 24-year-old Gonzales, Louisiana, resident was released from custody on the sex crime charges after posting bond in late September.

Police: 6 arrested for selling pot at Southern University

Authorities say that school administrators requested police assistance in investigating alleged marijuana sales at Southern University. Investigators say that a probe lasting roughly one month and involving undercover operators has resulted in the arrests of six people on suspicion of unlawful sales of marijuana.
