Lafayette couple arrested in Gonzales on suspicion of drug crimes

Law enforcement agencies may often use undercover operatives in a criminal investigation. These kinds of probes can raise complex questions. People may find themselves stuck in the middle of a law enforcement operation. Some may simply be in the wrong place at the wrong time. In other cases, a slip of judgment may expose a person to the potentially harsh consequences of a criminal charge.

Undercover operations may arise in a wide variety of contexts. Narcotics detectives in Ascension Parish claim that they engaged in some kind of undercover probe earlier this week. Details about the investigation have not been reported in public media, but authorities say that two Ascension Parish people were arrested on suspicion of drug offenses and other crimes after the recent narcotics operation.

Authorities say that narcotics detectives bought some methamphetamine from a couple in a parking lot in Gonzalez. After the alleged drug transaction, deputies claim that a brief car chase ensued. Law enforcement conducted a traffic stop of the car and claim that a search of the car produced several different substances. Deputies claim that a 32-year-old Lafayette, Louisiana, man had a handgun stuffed in his pants. He previously was convicted of a felony, according to law enforcement.

He is charged with a weapons offense and a string of drug crimes. A 22-year-old woman in the car is facing a resisting by flight charge, as well as allegations of drug crimes. The drug offenses against each person range from possession of pot to possession and distribution of meth.
